Major investment in the Renal Service
NHS Grampian Charity is the official, legally-linked charity of NHS Grampian.
The charity was founded under the NHS (Scotland) Act 1978 and is the largest health charity in the North-east, and the fourth largest NHS charity fund in Scotland.
We hold around 250 different funds covering wards, departments and specific medical conditions, and we have strict criteria to ensure donations are only used to enhance the services that NHS Grampian provides, and not to replace statutory responsibilities.
We fund activities, projects and services across three broad themes:
Patient Health & Wellbeing
Your donations help to enhance the health and wellbeing of patients in hospital and people in our community.
We work closely with healthcare professionals including doctors, nurses and service managers to provide some of the most advanced medical equipment available, and we provide the extras that create a more comfortable hospital environment, which can make a patient’s stay in hospital less daunting and more homely.
We also work with local charities and community organisations to fund a wide range of health and wellbeing projects across the region. These community-led projects provide services and support which aim to improve health, wellbeing, and people’s healthcare experience.
Staff Wellbeing & Development
We are always grateful to receive donations made by members of the public to thank staff for their hard work. Charity regulations mean that these donations can only be used in ways which demonstrate a public benefit.
NHS Grampian Charity has many funds which support staff to undertake advanced training and to attend role-specific conferences and events. This helps them gain more experience and feel more confident in their role, which in turn leads to better patient care.
We also fund comfortable spaces within hospitals for staff to take a break and unwind during their shift, including cosy staff rooms and relaxing outdoor greenspaces. These dedicated areas allow staff the space to stop and take a breath during busy shifts, before going back to work feeling rejuvenated and better able to support patients.
Research & Development
Aberdeen has a rich history of medical research, and NHS Grampian Charity continues to champion this. We have charitable funds set up to research all major illnesses including heart disease, cancer, diabetes, kidney disease and Parkinson’s.
Each year, we award grants to a range of smaller research projects. Positive results from these projects can lead to substantial funding from national research organisations, and to tangible impacts on healthcare delivery.
Research is often carried out in partnership with the NHS Grampian Research and Development Unit, the University of Aberdeen and Robert Gordon University. This valuable work helps to retain Grampian’s reputation as a centre of excellence for health service research.
